Filed Under (General Info) by Coach Ken on 30-01-2009

We having been averaging about 35-40 players during the week and 15-20 on saturdays.  All players expecting to play football this year must be at off-seasoning conditioning unless they are participating in other sports either winter or spring. Football at WHS is not a part time activity it requires a commitment.  No excuses.

Cal High crushes Washington 41-0

FREMONT — It wasn’t all that long ago the California High football team would have been happy with a winning season — making the North Coast Section playoffs would have simply been icing on the cake.

Enter Tony Sanchez.

The fifth-year Cal coach doesn’t stand for anything but 100 percent hard work. Win or lose, that’s what he wants.

(11-21) 23:21 PST — Leroy Green lost 20 pounds before the season, but the California High running back did not lose any power. Green, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior, finished with 202 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. He rushed for 132 yards in the first half.

By Kyle Bonagura, Media News Staff

Last year was all about milestones for the California High football team.

It earned its first share of the East Bay Athletic League title, won its first North Coast Section playoff game and made its first appearance in an NCS title game. The accomplishments added up to the best season in school history, and essentially put the program on the map.

If this year has proved anything, it’s that the Grizzlies were not a one-hit wonder. The schedule shows four losses, but none came by more than one score, including seven-point losses to Washington’s No. 1-ranked team (Bellevue) and California’s No. 3-ranked team (De La Salle).
